"I was in corporate event planning & marketing for years and enjoyed it, but my true passion was fitness," said Jen. "I disliked being tied to a desk all day & over time wasn’t feeling a sense of fulfillment & reward from my work. I wanted to turn my love of fitness into a new career. I would do partner workouts with friends & guide them though circuits I created. I realized I enjoyed motivating & helping others along their fitness journeys. My brother Jay & I had been talking for quite some time about starting our own personal training company, so we both decided to take the plunge, become certified & leave our jobs to start up our business," JFit360° has been in business for four years & the duo couldn't be happier that they listened to their hearts & took the risk to step out of the box & make things happen. According to Jen, "Exercise not only produces results to your physical appearance, but also reduces stress & improves overall well-being. You are only given one body & it is up to each of us to take care of it." In talking to Jen, I could see she truly loves what she does. So I had to touch on it. "My favorite part of what I do is seeing my clients sense of confidence & strength skyrocket. I build relationships with my clients, I see them multiple times per week, their success is my success & this is highly rewarding to me. I work with a wide age range of clients, from 9 years old all the way to 67, and everything in between – business execs, teens, couples, families, pregnant women & new moms who want to lose that baby weight. I enjoy pushing my clients in a caring & motivating way to break through their comfort zones and achieve that "hey, I totally just did that" ah ha moment!
When I asked Jen what her one piece of advice is for women starting their own business she had a lot to say! "Realize that it's okay to be scared in your new endeavor. You will make mistakes & learn from them as you go. Speak with other business owners / experts in your field for advice & networking. Stay true to the fact that this is your seed & that you are growing. Some people may tell you it's not the safest avenue...the unknown avenue, but you only live once & you must give your dream a try. Otherwise you will look back with many "what ifs". You must make things happen one step at a time. Do not wait for things to hopefully happen, make moves! Keep pressing forward.
Do not underestimate the amount of work & personal accountability starting your own business requires. Don’t expect to work the standard “9 to 5” day. If starting your own business was easy everyone would do it, but at the end of the day you will be proud of what you created. As a business owner & new mom, there is a lot of juggling & women must embrace the power of balance. You will constantly be pulled in many different directions & trying to tackle multiple tasks at once without being able to give each task the undivided attention it deserves. Admittedly this is a work in progress for me as I have many (often times conflicting) priorities - but that is okay! At the end of the day I feel fulfilled that I put in the passion required to take care of my clients, my family, while not forgetting to take care of myself." WISE WORDS!
