Hi All! Happy Wednesday. I don't know about you guys, but I am in desperate need of a Friday. Hopefully this post will brighten your day! This week I had the pleasure of meeting up with the sister duo behind Best Dressed in Charelstown...the incredible store where the Ted Baker dress I wore in my last post came from. If you've read my other interviews, you know that I love to share the stories of local women creating their own brands. That's why I was super excited to sit down with Nikoleta & Vicky!
How does it work you ask? Hear it from the owners themselves! "A client walks in & we give them a quick run down on how it works. All dresses are organized by size & style. We encourage clients to search for dresses above & below their typical sizes, as dresses run differently, depending on the designer. They then start selecting dresses they like & start trying them on. Based on their feedback, we'll suggest other dresses. It happens often that the client selects a dress that we brought them, rather than something they initially selected. Once they find something they love & feel great in we help them finish the look with jewelry & accessories. We then reserve the dress, the client picks it up, wears it & brings it back. We take care of the dry cleaning & minor repairs, it's as simple as that!"
N & V remain focused on buying & updating the collection every week. "We listen to our clients' feedback & we'll often add pieces that they're coveting which may have been missing from the collection before," said Nikoleta.
Accessories for your dress can also be rented ($10-$40). All jewelry & accessories are for sale!
As for the future of BD, the sister duo would love to open additional stores in the Boston area. "We want to be in Southie as soon as possible. We've heard a lot of feedback that we should open there next & we completely agree," says Vicky. "We would also like to be a style resource for Boston women. Whether they follow us on social media for inspiration, read our blog religiously or come in to get styling advice, we love helping women look & feel their best!"
One thing I always ask during an interview is what advice they have for other women trying to build brands of their own. According to Nikoleta, "Make sure that it is something you love & are truly passionate about. It's a lot of hard work but when you love what you do, it's totally worth it!" As for her sister Vicky, "Have clear goals & a vision. One of the most amazing things about this process has been watching our vision come to life. Also, be prepared to work hard, make sacrifices (there is no such thing as a day off when you're running your own business) and take risks!"
Stay tuned for Best Dressed's holiday collection, there will be lots of sparkle & glam! "It's going to be such a fun time dressing women for holiday weddings, parties & New Years Eve! We can't wait!"
